Growing up without access to skilled barbers or positive local mentorship, Lamont saw an opportunity to give the next generation what he didn’t have. The barbershop was opened just steps away from his childhood stomping grounds—across the street from the old penny candy store—symbolizing a full-circle journey. Since its inception, Tru Cutz has grown into a community hub, partnering with organizations like the Salvation Army, Cricket Wireless, and Converse to provide free haircuts, backpacks, sneakers, school supplies, and even cell phones for local kids.
